From realistic gangster drama to Ramayan: The great Yash dilemma after KGF 2 success

"What's Yash up to these days?" This seems to be the question that keeps the fans of Yash up all night. More than a year after the mammoth success of KGF: Chapter 2, Yash is yet to announce his next movie. 

“I am working towards clinching something that I believe in and am passionate about. You are the ones who empower me to think bigger and better. When I meet you next, I want to share that news and all the details with you. To be able to do that, I need some more time, which seems unlikely by 8th of January. So, this year, I ask you all for a special gift - the gift of your patience and understanding," Yash had said in a statement earlier this year.

Since then there have been several speculations about Yash's project . Some suggest that the Kannada superstar is in talks with Malayalam filmmaker Geetu Mohandas to do a realistic gangster drama, the direct opposite of director Prashanth Neel's adulation-inducing, larger-than-life film series, KGF. And some claim that he's in talks with Hindi filmmaker Nitesh Tiwari to play the role of demon king Ravana in the cinematic adaptation of the Indian epic Ramayana. It seems Nitesh has already zeroed in on Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt for the roles of Rama and Sita, respectively.  

But, nothing has been confirmed officially yet. And it brings us back to the same question - "What's Yash is upto these days?"

After scoring such a massive hit like KGF 2, it wouldn't be hard for Yash to get offers. If he wants, he could work with some of the biggest directors from any part of India. After all, KGF 2 was a pan-India hit. Yet, Yash keeps the fans guessing about his next movie. 

Yash's situation proves one thing: attaining success may be relatively straightforward, but maintaining it requires tremendous effort. The question arises: has the unprecedented success of KGF 2 inadvertently placed Yash in a challenging position? Could the overwhelming achievement have exerted immense pressure on him to carefully select a project that aligns with his considerably expanded market size?

The pressure on Yash to deliver another groundbreaking film after the colossal success of KGF 2 is undeniable. His previous venture not only reshaped the Kannada film industry but also propelled him to a pan-Indian audience. Yash stands at a critical juncture, seeking a project that lives up to the benchmark set by this epic saga.

But, it's not easy to follow up on such big hits. Take, for example, Telugu superstar Prabhas. He caught the imagination of people across the country with his portrayal in director SS Rajamouli's Baahubali series. Ever since, Prabhas has been fervently pursuing the elusive goal of achieving a similar level of box office success, tirelessly chasing the dragon of his previous triumph. 

Yash understands the significance of his next move, not only for his career but also for the future of the Kannada film industry. The impact of KGF 2 broke barriers, allowing Kannada cinema to flourish on a larger stage. Now, Yash carries the responsibility of building upon this momentum.
