Sunny Deol and Co. look in no mood to stop in their tracks anytime soon as Gadar 2 enters the elite top 3 list of all-time Hindi grossers. The film, which opened in theatres on August 11, has emerged as a thumping box office winner with close to Rs. 600 crores in global collections and a domestic yield that's now nearing Rs. 500 crores.
Although the Anil Sharma film has received mixed reviews from critics, audiences have paid no heed to that fact and have thronged cinema halls all over the country. Sunny Deol's presence comes as a huge contributor to this success and so is the 'recall factor', meaning that the fans of the first instalment, Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, have responded tremendously well to the second part.
Ameesha Patel, Utkarsh Sharma, Simrat Kaur, Manish Wadhwa and others, too, are part of the cast of Gadar 2.
Gadar 2 goes past Prashanth Neel's K.G.F: Chapter 2
While the Hindi film carried a lot of promise prior to its theatrical release, not many would have expected it to have emerged as such a phenomenal success, that too within a short span of time. According to the latest trade reports, Gadar 2 is the second-highest opener for Bollywood this year after Pathaan and is also the second-fastest film to cross the Rs. 200 crores mark at the box office, aside from Sunny Deol's most commercially successful film to date.
In these pursuits, the film has also gone past KGF 2 (Hindi) to now take the podium finish as the third highest-grossing Hindi film in India.
Yes, the same trade reports inform us that the film went past the Rocking Yash starrer on Saturday with domestic collections of nearly Rs. 14 crores, taking its total earnings to a whopping Rs. 439.95 crores! That makes Gadar 2 the third highest-grossing Hindi film in India and is only behind Shah Rukh Khan's Pathaan (Rs. 543 crores) and Baahubali: The Conclusion (Hindi, Rs. 511 crores).
At the rate Anil Sharma's film is marching at the box office, it is likely that it will breach a few more landmarks and etch itself a permanent name in history.
