Moviegoers are in for a treat this festive season with an abundance of new releases announcements. Sunny Deol on Friday has announced the sequel to his blockbuster movie Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, which was released 20 year ago.
The 64 year old actor took to social media to share the exciting news, and wrote that the wait for the sequel is finally over.
Ameesha Patel, whose performance as Sakina was lauded in the original movie also shared the sequel announcement on social media. In the caption, she called Gadar 2 “the biggest ever sequel in Indian cinema”.
The original movie which released on June 15, 2001 was a massive hit and received positive response from the fans. The movie was a period love story set during the time of the partition.
The movie followed Tara Singh (Deol), a Sikh man who falls in love with Sakina (Patel), a muslim woman from Pakistan.
Produced by Zee Studios and Anil Sharma Production, the movie will also see actor Utkarsh Sharma, who played the role of Tara Singh’s son in the original movie, returns in the sequel.
Anil Sharma, who directed Gadar, has written and helmed the sequel.
The motion poster also revealed that Gadar 2 will be released in 2022. Production on the movie is expected to begin soon.
