Acclaimed actor Vijay Sethupathi, who recently garnered praise for his performance in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan, has now gained another accolade. On Tuesday (November 21), his new film Gandhi Talks, also starring Arvind Swamy, premiered at the 54th International Film Festival of India (IFFI), which is being held in Goa. Directed by Kishor Pandurang Belekar, the comedy drama film is the first silent movie to be screened at the film festival.

The Tamil actor unveiled the promo of his upcoming film Gandhi Talks at IFFI 2023. Music for the silent film, which also features Aditi Rao Hydari in a pivotal role, is composed by the legendary AR Rahman. The opening ceremony of the prestigious film festival was held at the Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Indoor Stadium in Panaji.

Speaking about the film, Vijay revealed that he is excited for audiences to have a unique experience with this genre. The actor also said that a lot of effort has gone into making this silent film, as engaging the audience without dialogues is not easy. Vijay has ensured that he has done full justice to provide an engaging cinematic experience with Gandhi Talks.

Meanwhile, director Kishor emphasised that the silent film was not a gimmick, and that it is a form of storytelling. He explained that conveying emotions by ‘switching off the device of dialogue’ is not only a risk to take but also a challenging yet interesting task.

IFFI 2023: A star-studded affair

The opening ceremony of the film festival was a star-studded affair, with performances by Madhuri Dixit, Shriya Saran and Nushrratt Bharuccha, among others. Sunny Deol, Karan Johar, Shantanu Moitra and Shreya Ghoshal were also present at the event, along with other celebrities and artists.

Vijay Sethupathi’s upcoming films

The Super Deluxe star has a few interesting films lined up for release. Vijay, who is shooting for Vetrimaaran’s period crime thriller Viduthalai Part 2, will be seen in Sriram Raghavan’s Hindi thriller Merry Christmas, opposite Katrina Kaif. The '96 actor is also gearing up for Nithilan-directed Maharaja - his 50th film. The film also stars Mamta Mohandas and Anurag Kashyap in pivotal roles.
