When Kannada filmmaker and journalist Gaurish Akki was announced as a contestant of the milestone 10th season of Bigg Boss Kannada, it took audiences by surprise. Gaurish did not seem like a good fit for the show, which he also realised within days of being in the house. After a two-week stint in the Bigg Boss house, Gaurish was evicted for not being ‘entertaining' enough. Speaking to the media after he left the show, he explained that Bigg Boss is not a show for people like him who are introverted, not physically strong and prefer stimulating conversations over silly and routine stuff about food, interpersonal relationships of contestants, etc.
Season 10 was not the first time that Gaurish was called to be a part of the show. He had been invited twice before, which he declined owing to other commitments at the time, but when a third call came, he decided to respect the fact that they were returning to him every now and then and went on the show. While he was not entirely sold on being a part of Bigg Boss Kannada, Gaurish says that he took part after a push from his wife, who asked him to look at it like any other work commitment.
By day 3 of being in the house, though, the media man began feeling the monotony of the show. The fact that he was stuck in a house with a set number of people where only certain things were being spoken about began to get to him. But the final straw came when a punishment meted out to Sangeetha Sringeri at the end of a task was to cover her in cow dung. Gaurish says that he wanted to leave the house at that point as he was not comfortable with delivering the punishment or being at the receiving end himself at some point.
