Fans of filmmaker-producer AR Murugadoss have been wondering which project he would take up next. His last outing was Rajinikanth's Darbar (streaming on Amazon Prime Video) which was released in theatres in 2020. He has now announced that he is all set for the release of his next production venture.

Titled 1947 August 16, the movie has Murugadoss' former associate director NS Ponkumar at its helm. Gautham Karthik plays the lead in this ambitious project, the post production of which is currently going on in full swing. Om Prakash Bhatt and Narsiram Choudhary are also producing the film along with the Thuppakki director.

Sivakarthikeyan has unveiled the movie's first look poster from his Twitter handle and wished success to the entire team. The first look features Gautham and others as aggressive prisoners who are on a risky mission. This is the second time Gautham is acting in a film under Murugadoss' production after Rajkumar Periasamy's Rangoon (streaming on Disney+ Hotstar).

1947 August 16 has debutant Revathi Sharma playing the female lead while Selva Kumar and Sean Roldan have been roped in to handle cinematography and music composition respectively. Shot entirely in Tamil Nadu, the movie is expected to hit the screens later this year.

Gautham Karthik, who was last seen in Yutha Satham, will next be seen in Obeli N Krishna's Pathu Thala, an official remake of Kannada movie Mufti. The young actor has an untitled project with director Badri Venkatesh as well. The film is touted to be an action entertainer.

On the other hand, there have been reports that Murugadoss is likely to team up with Sivakarthikeyan for a project. The latter releasing the first look poster of the former's upcoming production venture has strengthened the speculation even further.
