The countdown for Hattrick Hero Shivarajkumar’s next, Ghost, has begun. The film, directed by MG Srinivas and produced by Sandesh Productions, is one of the many Dasara releases hitting theatres this year and will have its date with audiences on October 19. An action heist thriller, the film’s narrative follows incidents occurring in a 48-hour span, with most of it unfolding within a prison. The story, Srinivas had said, is based on a real incident that happened in Chennai a few years ago.

In the early stages of promotions, the filmmaker had said that while the focus would be on the release of the Kannada original, Tamil and Telugu versions would also be kept ready depending on the demand for the same. At the time, Srinivas was not sure about a Hindi or Malayalam version in theatres, but after the release of Jailer, in which Shivarajkumar had a minor, but much-appreciated cameo, all the plans changed and the team began focusing majorly on ensuring that the other language versions are also ready for a simultaneous release on October 19.

Earlier today, Srinivas shared that one of the major production and distribution companies in the north Indian market, Pen Studios, had secured the Hindi theatrical, satellite and digital distribution rights of Ghost for a substantial amount. Ghost, he wrote, is the first Kannada film acquisition for the Jayantilal Gada-led banner, which has, in the past, released movies such as RRR and Jawan. This collaboration, Srinivas said, will ensure a massive release for Ghost across North India.

The Dasara week, though, is quite jam-packed, with films like Leo, Bhagavanth Kesari, Tiger Nageshwara Rao, Ganpath, Sapta Sagaradaache Ello-Side B, among others, vying for a slice of the market in Karnataka. Up north, the Tiger Shroff-led Ganpath is likely to be the biggest competition for Ghost, which also stars Anupam Kher and Jayaram. The first song from Ghost - OGM (Original Gangster music) - is set to drop on September 22.
