Good Bad Ugly back on OTT: Ajith Kumar’s film returns to Netflix but it's not the same

A few days back, we had reported that 2025 Tamil film Good Bad Ugly starring actor Ajith Kumar in the lead role, was pulled down from Netflix. It was because veteran music composer Ilaiyaraaja had approached court, suing the makers of Good Bad Ugly for using his music without his permission. Naturally, the court took the side of Ilaiyaraaja and ordered removal of the music. Hence, Netflix too pulled down Good Bad Ugly from its platform. But, now, the film is available, sans Ilaiyaraaja music.

Ilaiyaraaja, the veteran and celebrated composer from Tamil cinema, is known for taking strict legal action against those who use his music without permission. The latest to get affected is the 2025 Tamil film Good Bad Ugly.

The film had used three of Ilaiyaraaja’s old songs, namely Ottha Ruba Tharen, Ilamai Idho Idho, and En Jodi Manja Kuruvi. The court, which acknowledged Ilaiyaraaja’s side, had directed the makers of Good Bad Ugly to remove it. Hence, for a few days, the Ajith film was not available to stream. Now, the film is back on Netflix without the Ilaiyaraaja songs. The film’s background songs have replaced Ilaiyaraaja’s.

Good Bad Ugly, one of the top grossers of Tamil cinema 2025

Good Bad Ugly is the second highest grosser of 2025 in Tamil cinema so far, as it trails behind Rajinikanth’s Coolie. The film revolves around a former gangster who returns to his past ways to help his son come out of a fake case.

The film is written and directed by Adhik Ravichandran. The film features music by GV Prakash, cinematography by Abinadhan Ramanujam, and editing by Vijay Velukutty. Alongside Ajith, the cast includes Trisha Krishnan, Arjun Das, BS Avinash, Prabhu, Simran, Prasanna, Rahul Dev, Yogi Babu, Sunil, and Shine Tom Chacko and others.
