Ground Zero is an Excel Entertainment production, which was directed by Tejas Prabha Vijay Deoskar and produced by Ritesh Sidhwani and Farhan Akhtar. The film also features Sai Tamhankar and Zoya Hussain. This film is based on the real-life events surrounding one of the most prominent counter-terrorism operations in India and BSF officer Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey.
Ground Zero follows Hashmi's character, Deputy Commandant Narendra Nath Dhar Dubey, as he is tasked with eradicating a growing terror threat in Kashmir during the early 2000s, against the very politically unstable backdrop of the region. The plot starts in Srinagar, as a group of radicalised college students called the "pistol gang" launches a series of coordinated assaults against Indian security forces.

Information linking the pistol gang to Ghazi Baba, whose real name is Rana Tahir Nadeem, complicates Dubey's mission. Nadeem was the terrorist mastermind behind the attack on the Indian Parliament in December 2001. The subsequent two-year operation is marked by fruitless leads, botched infiltration attempts, and tensions between different government agencies. Husain, played by Mir Mehrooz, is a local informant who helps Dubey get closer to his objective.
The film culminates in a high-stakes confrontation that leads to Ghazi Baba's death, which represents a watershed moment in India's struggle against terrorism. The 2003 real-life operation marked a significant turning point in terms of national security and anti-terror strategy.
Ground Zero addresses the mission and sheds light on the emotional and physical toll it has on the personnel. Beyond its action-packed exterior, the film offers a human side through its depiction of Dubey's emotional hardships, mental strain, and ethical dilemmas.
By going live on streaming services, Ground Zero will hopefully reach more people and spark new conversations about the security situation at that time. The movie will be accessible to Prime Video members starting on June 20, following a two-week rental period.
