While Aditya Dhar’s Dhurandhar continues to mint money at the Box Office, the voices tagging the film as propaganda are not left unheard either. Various celebrities have come forth and spoken on the matter. Gul Panag is among the latest to discuss the film in a recent interview. Although she eventually hoped that Akshaye Khanna debate on the matter, Gul did not shy away from expressing her views on the political aspect of the movie which is the talk of the town.
When asked about ‘propaganda films’ with regards to Dhurandhar, Gul Panag told The Lallantop, “Har film ek artistic expression hai. If it has a political subtext and if you do not like the critical subtext, then it gets tagged as propaganda. Similarly, if you like it, then it is nuanced. That’s the difference.”
She then recalled District 9 and tagged it as a ‘very political film.’ The actress addressed how every movie has a socio-political view. “If it is in agreement with us, we say ‘what an amazing film’ and if not then we tag it as propaganda,” she emphasized, while recalling how District 9 was tagged as a great film because it earned profits. “For me, personally, I look at it as if the story is effective and forces a thought in your mind, regardless of the outcome of the movie – that’s an important criterion for me. I cannot imagine in a vacuum circumstance and respond.” Nonetheless, Gul did add that if asked whether she would work on such a project, then she might be able to answer honestly. She further mentioned that choosing a film is also a strategic decision for her rather than it being tactical. The actress also expressed hope to work in projects that she does not regret working on even after a decade. She wishes that people look up to her with respect when it comes to her career choices.

Further stating that the question should be discussed with Akshaye Khanna or his brother Rahul Khanna, Gul Panag recalled how Vinod Khanna would have the perfect answer to the question. Revealing Akshaye was two years senior to her in boarding school, Gul asked for a clearer explanation to which she understood how Arjun Rampal’s character is stereotyped by showing him smoking. “There will always be some subtext in your socio-political filmmaking as a filmmaker,” she shared.
While Dhurandhar is still running in theatres and continues to rule at the Box Office, the second part of the movie will also release on March 19, 2026. It is slated to clash with Yash’s Toxic at the Box Office.
