Gunmaaster G9 announcement Emraan Hashmi, Aditya Datt, Himesh Reshammiya reunite 20 years after Aashiq Banaya Aapne

The highly anticipated action thriller Gunmaaster G9 has finally been set in motion, featuring a stellar ensemble and the long-awaited reunion of a former team. As the film's lead actor, Emraan Hashmi reunites with Aashiq Banaya Aapne director Aditya Datt and score composer Himesh Reshammiya for their comeback to theatres.

Stylised action thriller

Gunmaaster G9 is a well-produced film by Deepak and Hunar Mukut's Soham Rockstar Entertainment. It stars Genelia D'Souza, Aparshakti Khurana, and Abhishek Singh, among others. Featuring stylised images and emotionally authentic storytelling, the film is billed as a high-octane family action drama.

The project is the latest venture by producer Deepak Mukut, who has been busy with hit genre films like the Sanam Teri Kasam re-release this year.

Aditya Datt's career milestone

Director Aditya Datt, known for his work on Commando films, Table No. 21, and the current JioHotstar (OTTplay Premium) series Bad Cop, touted the film as a watershed moment in his career.

The filmmaker stated, "When we made Aashiq Banaya Aapne, we were young, hungry, and experimental. With Gunmaaster G9, we’re still all of those things—but sharper and more evolved. It’s a full-circle moment for me." According to Datt, "Deepak Mukut brought us back together and trusted us with this film," and he expressed immense gratitude to the producer for the opportunity.

Plot details kept under wraps

Although the specifics of the plot are still unknown, Hashmi will be seen with a new avatar that is heavy on action. The filmmakers' goal in making this film is to make it accessible to a wide range of people by combining action with meaningful story elements.

Himesh Reshammiya is back to compose the score for the film after working with Hashmi on several hit singles in the early 2000s. Similar to their previous work, we anticipate the soundtrack to play a pivotal role in the narrative.

Release timeline announced

Following the monsoon season, principal photography will commence in Mumbai, with a second slate of shoots scheduled in Uttarakhand to follow. At this time, the anticipated theatrical release of the film is set for 2026.
