Guns & Gulaabs Preview: Here's all you need to know about Raj & DK's Netflix series starring Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan

Set in the volatile and dangerous early 1990s, Guns & Gulaabs is an engrossing story of "firsts" in the town of Gulaabganj. The show is a nostalgic love letter to Bollywood from the 1990s. The series combines elements from a wide variety of genres with a focus on young adult themes in a way that has never been seen before.

The original comedic stamp of Raj and DK, the show's creators, is all over Guns & Gulaabs. The series features a stellar ensemble cast that includes the late Satish Kaushik and the rising stars Rajkummar Rao, Dulquer Salmaan, Adarsh Gourav, T.J. Bhanu, and Gulshan Devaiah. The cast brings the designers' ideas to life with fresh, entertaining avatars.

On August 18, Guns & Gulaabs will debut exclusively on Netflix.

Set in the '90s, Guns & Gulaabs transports viewers to a cinematic wasteland where a high-stakes deal is being negotiated. The Netflix comedy mashes up genres as it follows a lovestruck mechanic, the reluctant heir to a governing gang, and an honest officer turned agent of mayhem against the backdrop of hilarious power struggles and vengeance schemes. In addition, three friends from school share the bittersweet innocence of first love, first hate, and everything that comes with growing up in a small town.

When asked about working with Netflix for the first time, Raj and DK said that Guns & Gulaabs has been an exciting journey for them. This time around, they returned to their comfort zone, drawing inspiration from the narrative techniques they used in their previous films (99, Shor in the City). Along the way, they unintentionally crafted a pulpy, retro-style genre mashup. Netflix has been a great collaborator since they are just as enthusiastic as the filmmakers are about sharing this offbeat tale with the world, and it kicks off a fantastic partnership that they think fans will love.
