Rajkummar Rao considers Raj and DK to be friends before colleagues, and because of the chance to work with them as directors and because of the compelling plot, he quickly settled on Guns & Gulaabs. This is the first time the actor has worked with the filmmaker duo as directors; they were his co-producers and co-writers on Stree [2018]. They are two of his closest friends in Mumbai, and they have been meaning to collaborate for a while now.

Rajkummar's penchant for unusual narratives was satisfied with Guns & Gulaabs. The Netflix criminal comedy, which also stars Dulquer Salmaan and Adarsh Gourav, has all the hallmarks of a Raj-DK production: outlandish plot points, offbeat characters, and a healthy dose of humour. During an interaction with Mid Day, the actor said that despite the prevalence of crime and investigation dramas, it's important to take a break every once in a while. The actor claims that Raj-DK is the best at making people laugh in absurd situations.

Rajkummar plays Paana Tipu, a violently in-love mechanic, in the forthcoming series. The actor gives credit for his ability to fully explore his character's peculiarities to Raj-DK and their creative team. It's simple when one has wonderful resources to work with, such as them. All one has to do is challenge oneself a little and try something new. If they aren't simply here to mouth off, and if one does their work for the correct reasons, they will succeed.

However, even with a lot of effort, success at the box office is no guarantee. As a result of the pandemic, people have changed their viewing habits and now prefer to see blockbuster films in theatres rather than content-driven offerings on OTT. Rajkummar sees the bright side of things, noting that actors no longer have to rely on box office success to become famous thanks to streaming platforms.

For instance, he thought Suvinder Vicky was fantastic in Kohrra. In my book, he's a big deal. The actor could care less if a thousand people have seen Suvinder Vicky or if only four hundred have; he is one of the best actors working today. Jaideep Ahlawat in Paatal Lok [2020] and Pratik Gandhi in Scam 1992 [2020] both met the same fate. The Family Man marked the beginning of Manoj Bajpayee's second innings, and he is now among the best in the business.
