Filmmaker Hansal Mehta is making a bold foray into genre cinema with Pralay, a post-apocalyptic zombie survival thriller headlined by Ranveer Singh. It forms the centrepiece of his production banner True Story Films’ growing slate.
Directed by Jai Mehta and co-produced with Ranveer Singh’s Maa Kasam Films, Pralay is being touted as one of the most ambitious genre ventures in Indian cinema. Hansal Mehta called it “a film unlike anything India has attempted before." The team aims to try something different in the way they tell stories. He noted that the aim is to blend Indian sensibilities and heartwarming narratives in the zombie format.
Apart from Pralay, Hansal Mehta is preparing to helm Porbandar, an action drama set in the hometown of Mahatma Gandhi. The production slate also includes Dilkashi, which marks the Hindi-language debut of Lijo Jose Pellissery with music composed by A. R. Rahman.
Other projects in development include Kehar Singh, directed by Ajitpal Singh, the horror title Mehfooz, and regional ventures such as Sardar Asardar, inspired by Vallabhbhai Patel, along with the Punjabi film Hanere de Panchi from director Shashank Walia.

Meanwhile, Ranveer Singh is gearing up for the release of Dhurandhar: The Revenge. Aditay Dhar's film will hit cinemas on March 19.
Filmmaker Jai Mehta is taking a measured approach to making a post-apocalyptic zombie thriller, Pralay. The narrative is said to focus on the life of a survivor after a horrific disaster, with the zombie character serving as a lens for exploring social, psychological, and moral decline.
It is expected to present a reimagined version of Mumbai inspired by the visual scale of The Hunger Games, as the team plans to depict a ravaged city through a blend of physical set construction and artificial intelligence (AI) enhancements.
