The teaser of Kalki 2898 AD has generated a strong buzz on the internet. Yesterday, as promised, the makers launched a short footage of Amitabh Bachchan’s look from the upcoming sci-fi entertainer. He plays Dhronacharya’s son, Ashwatthama, in this film. However, netizens drew their attention towards a shot from the footage, which showed a digitally de-aged version of the megastar. Here is a short list of actors who were digitally de-aged for movies in the Indian film industry in the past.
In 2023, the hit movie Dunki stars the famous Shah Rukh Khan – who appeared in the movie as both young and old, with the youth achieved through digital means. The film is a mix of comedy and drama about the illegal immigration method called "donkey flight." Written, produced, edited, and directed by Rajkumar Hirani, the collaboration involves Rajkumar Hirani Films, Jio Studios, and Red Chillies Entertainment. Besides Shah Rukh Khan, the movie also features Taapsee Pannu and a special appearance by Vicky Kaushal and Boman Irani.

During the 2022 episode of Koffee with Karan, Aamir Khan was asked if Kareena Kapoor was the first choice for Laal Singh Chaddha. He replied, No, explaining that they considered the age range of the characters, which varied from 18 to 50 years old. Their focus was primarily on de-aging himself while aiming for a desired age of around 25 years, allowing the actress to appear younger or older as needed. Aamir Khan also shared his experience with digital enhancements, citing not only Laal Singh Chaddha but also PK, in which he played an alien.

In the 2018 movie Zero, Shah Rukh Khan plays a dwarf who travels from Meerut to the USA. During his journey, he meets the popular actress Babita Kumari, played by Katrina Kaif. Aafia Yusufzai Bhinder, portrayed by Anushka Sharma, is his inspiration, a talented scientist with cerebral palsy. To accurately depict his character, Shah Rukh Khan's physical appearance was digitally modified for the film.

The movie stars Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif, with Khan playing a circus artiste whose appearance is digitally altered for that segment.
