Film enthusiasts are excited by the announcements of several multi-starrers in Malayalam this year. According to recent reports, Asif Ali and Kunchacko Boban will play the main parts in Mathukutty Xavier's upcoming movie.
Reports state that the young filmmaker's next film with Kunchacko Boban and Asif Ali will kickstart from the end of 2025. It has also been revealed that a schedule of 100 days of shooting has been planned for this big-budget film, which is touted to be a period action drama. However, the makers are yet to make any official confirmation on the same. Further updates on this project are expected in the coming months.
Mathukutty rose to fame with his directorial, Helen, which bagged him the National Film Award for Best Debut Film Director in 2019. He also remade the movie into Hindi with the title, Mili, starring Janhvi Kapoor. The director also penned the screenplay for Mukesh-starrer Philip's, which is streaming on Manorama Max.
The actors have starred together in a number of Malayalam movies such as Sevens, Rajamma @ Yahoo, Virus and Ordinary. Kunchacko Boban had a good start this year with Officer on Duty, which is available to watch on Netflix. The actor is now shooting for Mahesh Narayanan's highly anticipated film, Patriot, which also features Mohanlal, Mammootty and Fahadh Faasil in pivotal roles.
Asif Ali had three theatrical releases this year, including Malayalam's first box office hit of 2025, Rekhachithram. His most recent release was Aabhyanthara Kuttavaali, which is anticipated to have an OTT debut soon. His upcoming line-up of movies include Jeethu Joseph's Mirage and Rohit V S's Tiki Taka. Sources claim that Lukman Avaran, Wamiqa Gabbi, Naslen and Sangeeth Prathap play significant roles in the film as well. Tiki Taka is anticipated to be released by the end of this year and is regarded as one of Asif's highest-budget films to date.
