Director UR Jameel's Maha has been lying in the cans for a long time. The movie managed to evoke curiousity among film lovers after makers announced that it is Hansika's 50th film. Tipped as a thriller, the project garnered more attention when Silambarasan joined the film to play an extended cameo in it.
Silambarasan and Hansika teaming up after Vaalu was considered as the USP of the film by makers. Srikanth, Karunakaran and Thambi Ramaiah among others essay key roles in the film which has been bankrolled by Mathiyalagan of Etcetera Entertainment.
Last year, the director and producer had a fallout after the former came up with allegations that the latter completed the movie without his knowledge and tried selling the movie to a digital platform. The producer, however, refuted his claims and came up with a different version.
According to Jameel, Mathiyalagan was in a hurry to sign a deal with an OTT platform and he went ahead despite crucial portions left incomplete. He also accused him of not paying him the complete remuneration. But Mathi rubbished these accusations and said that the shooting was complete long ago as per mutual decision taken by both the parties.
After almost a year now, there is an update on its release. Actor-producer RK Suresh has announced that he has bagged the film's Tamil Nadu theatrical rights, and that Maha will hit the screens on June 10. Movie buffs are waiting to know if Jameel would come up with any objection against the release of the film.
A couple of weeks after Maha, another film which Suresh has bagged theatrical rights, Maamanithan, will be hitting the screens. The Vijay Sethupathi-starrer family drama which has been directed by Seenu Ramasamy will arrive on June 24.
