It won't be wrong to say Dhruva Natchathiram is filmmaker Gautham Menon's most ambitious film yet. The film has, however, undergone a significant change since its inception.

It seems when Gautham conceived this film, many were not able to understand his cinematic vision and he couldn't secure his preferred star cast.

In a recent interview, Gautham revealed Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan was one of the big stars who were on the list of his desired actors for this film. However, at the time, Amitabh seemed to be in no mood to do a full-fledged action movie.

"I wanted Amitabh Bachchan for the character Mr K. I tried and met him and all that. But the script had a lot of movement and action. The response I got was: 'Too much action. It's not possible," revealed Gautham.

Later he cast dancer Dhananjayan, who is much older than Amitabh, in that role and he seemed very happy with the outcome. "Because of his (Dhananjayan's) age and everything, we toned down a lot of things. But, there's a stature about him, which we liked," he added.

Amitabh Bachchan is not the only big superstar to turn down Dhruva Natchathiram. The film was supposed to take off with Suriya in the lead role. However, Gautham couldn't convince Suriya to take the leap of faith with him on this project. Gautham noted that he wanted to "find" the film on the sets, but Suriya was not in full agreement with this approach, leading to a public fallout between the two.

Later, Gautham also pitched Dhruva Natchathiram to Superstar Rajinikanth. And Rajinikanth picked director Pa Ranjith's Kabali instead.

Finally, Chiyaan Vikram came on board, breathing a new lease of life into Gautham's magnum opus.

After a long delay, Dhruva Natchathiram is now set to hit the screens worldwide on November 24.
