Nani was quite right when he told that December could be father’s month with the release of two biggies - Hi Nanna and Animal. Both films focus on the story of fathers and the relationship with their children. While Hi Nanna, also starring Mrunal Thakur, Baby Kiara, releases on December 7, Animal hits screens tomorrow. Both films will release in four major South Indian languages and Hindi.
Hi Nanna star Nani and director Sandeep Reddy Vanga came together for a promotional interview this week. In a surprise revelation, Nani said that he was reminded of a Telugu film as he watched the teaser of Animal for the first time. “The first time I watched the teaser, I sensed a resemblance to Dharma Chakram. In an era of soft fathers, the film went against trends and made quite an impact on me.”
“However, I realised the film was in a much different zone after watching the trailer,” Nani added. He further added that Telugu films have consistently explored mother-son bonds and opined the industry has barely produced father-centric stories with the exception of Jr NTR’s Nannaku Prematho recently. Similarly, the actor felt Hi Nanna will be a refreshing insight into the relationship between a father and a daughter.
“Hindi cinema may have made father-daughter stories in the past, the last such instance in Telugu cinema was Chiranjeevi’s Daddy. Hi Nanna is ultimately a love story of a father,” Nani shared. Sandeep Reddy Vanga felt the writing had to be very strong for an entire film to be based on the father-daughter bond. He praised the cinematography and compared Nani’s look to his 2011 release Ala Modalaindi.
Animal also stars Rashmika Mandanna, Bobby Deol, Tripti Dimri and Anil Kapoor. Hi Nanna’s cast, beyond the leads, comprises Angad Bedi, Jayaram, Priyadarshi, Shilpa Tulaskar.
