Hiccups and Hookups: Rajkumar Rao announces Lionsgate Play’s first Indian original series

When it came to unveiling its first Indian original TV series, Lionsgate Play seemed to pull out all the stops. The title and character introductions of the upcoming web series were made by Rajkummar Rao.

The minute-long video opens with Rao giving audiences a rundown of his career success. He then switches into a cheeky description of the ‘new Raos’ on the market, whom he describes as ‘shocking, not rocking’.

The actor takes us through the ‘no filter family’ with each of its members- ‘the classic modern stree’ played by Lara Datta; the self described “Newton of relationships” portrayed by Prateik Babbar; and Shinnova’s character of a teenage girl trying to be ‘the queen of relationships’ whose efforts do not go well.

He then moves on to reveal the title of the upcoming series, Hiccups and Hookups (of a no filter family) and the release date of the show as well.

According to reports in IANS, Rao had let on his association with the show, and had a lot to say about the family sharing his namesake. Referring to them as ‘spunky’ and ‘sassy’, he hilariously joked that the quirky family and their is a threat to his blotch free reputation due to their name.

The upcoming show is helmed by Kunal Kohli, popular for his work on films such as Hum Tum and Fanaa.

Hiccups and Hookups will be available to stream exclusively on Lionsgate Play from November 26 onwards.
