House Mates trailer out: Middle-class family’s dream for house ends on a horror comedy note

We had earlier reported that a Tamil film titled House Mates is in the making with actors like Kaali Venkat, Darshan and others. The makers of the film unveiled the trailer on social media on Thursday, with House Mates slated for a theatrical release on August 1.

Tamil films, which have been focusing on stories from middle-class life, are now coming up with House Mates. However, the twist is that the film will be a fantasy horror comedy. It stars Darshan, who was seen in films like Kanaa and Thunivu, in the lead role along with Kaali Venkat. The trailer of House Mates was released by the makers on social media on Thursday. Actors Arsha Chandini Baiju, Vinodini, Dheena, Abdool Lee, and Master Henrik are part of the House Mates cast.

The trailer shows a middle-class man's dream to buy a house, which eventually happens. But as they move into their home, strange things begin to happen. The family sense a paranormal presence at their home, as we see another family also experiencing the same. The trailer takes a comic route as we see the house itself is a ghost. How the families are connected and what the ghost wants form the rest of the story.

Sivakarthikeyan to present House Mates

Sivakarthikeyan, who has been backing quality films under his banner Sivakarthikeyan Productions, will be presenting House Mates. “We watched it. We loved every bit of it. The unique concept, the entertainment and this new team’s sincere effort truly stood out, and we knew we had to present it,” the production had said after watching House Mates. The film is scheduled to release in theatres on August 1.

T. Raja Vel has written and directed the upcoming horror comedy. He has earlier worked as co-director with filmmaker Ajay Gnanamuthu and was part of the writing team of Demonte Colony 2.
