Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil 2 is 'fully ready'; Filmmaker Sanjay Gupta reveals when it will go on floors

Hrithik Roshan's Kaabil (2017) did well at the box office in India. The film is widely lauded as a masterclass in acting, anchoring a revenge thriller that otherwise relies on formulaic, 1990s-style melodrama. Following the success of Kaabil, fans have been anticipating a sequel and filmmaker Sanjay Gupta recently revealed that the script for Kaabil 2 is ready. 

When will Kaabil 2 go on floors?

Speaking to Variety India, filmmaker Sanjay Gupta was asked about Kaabil 2. He said that he is ready with the script and added, "As a director and a writer, I'm fully ready. The minute I get a green signal from Roshans, we're good to go. I have the script for “Kaabil 2” and when they feel it is the right time, we'll make it."

Sanjay also said that this time it was far deadlier than the first part, which he believed was how it should be. He also said that when a sequel to a film is made, it has to be better than the first; otherwise, there would be no reason to make it.

What's the plot of Kaabil?

Kaabil (2017) is a riveting Hindi crime thriller featuring Hrithik Roshan and Yami Gautam as a visually impaired couple whose world is torn apart by a violent crime. Fueled by the fire of revenge, Roshan's character uses his sharp mind and keen senses to track down the criminals, earning praise for his intense and heartwarming performance.

Rohan Bhatnagar (Hrithik Roshan), a talented blind dubbing artist, falls in love with and marries Supriya (Yami Gautam), who is also blind. However, their blissful life in Mumbai is destroyed when Supriya is raped by Amit (Rohit Roy) and Wasim, who are connected to a powerful local politician, Madhavrao Shelar (Ronit Roy).

After this tragic incident, the police, influenced by the politician, refused to take action, resulting in Supriya committing suicide. Heartbroken, Rohan hides his blindness and begins a campaign to eliminate those responsible for committing a "perfect crime." It focuses on a cat-and-mouse game between the blind hero and the corrupt system, which ends with Rohan's successful revenge.

The central theme is the pursuit of personal justice when the law fails to protect the weak. This film overturns the idea that "differently abled" people are helpless, turning the protagonist's blindness into an advantage against sighted enemies.
