'I don't know what superstar means,' Parvathy Thiruvothu's hot take on 'superstardom' outrages netizens

Malayalam actor Parvathy Thiruvothu is known for her outspoken personality. She doesn't hesitate to speak her mind even though she knows it might stir up emotions and receive polarising reactions. 

In an interview, Parvathy has spoken dismissively about the 'superstardom' enjoyed by some actors in the Indian film industry. She has revealed that she doesn't believe in the 'superstar' tag, while she will be happy to be known as a 'super actor.' 

"Superstardom doesn't give anything to anybody. I don't understand it and I don't know how people have benefited from it. I don't know what 'superstar' means. Is it about influence or people going crazy due to hero-worshipping? I don't know. But, if you call me 'super actor' I will be happy," said Parvathy. The clip of this interview going viral on the internet and is drawing mixed reactions.

When Parvathy was asked to pick actors who she thought fit her idea of 'super actors' she gave a surprising answer. After a deep reflection, she said, "Fahadh (Faasil), Asif (Ali) and Rima (Kallingal)." 

Many fans of Malayalam cinema have expressed regret over her choice as she didn't take the names of superstars like Mohanlal and Mammootty. Even though the two superstars enjoy a huge fan following, they have repeatedly defied expectations by choosing offbeat films that stars of their stature in other regional industries would not touch with a 10-foot pole. 

Mammootty recently surprised everyone by playing a gay man in the critically acclaimed film Kaathal- The Core.

It's noteworthy that, earlier in an exclusive interview with OTTplay, Parvathy praised Mammootty for his choice of films in recent years. "At a time when we are all sort of turned into mobs hell-bent on following the thrill and adrenaline of hate, there is somebody who's leading you with love," she said, praising Mammootty. 

However, fans seemed to be upset that Mammootty wasn't her first choice for her list of 'super actors.' 

In the meantime, Parvathy was last seen in the Hindi film Kadak Singh. Starring Pankaj Tripathi in the lead role, the film premiered directly on ZEE5 last week.
