Hello Deepshika! Tell us as to what does the term ‘Mother’ mean to you?
Mother means love, care, warmth, best friend, nurturing, protective so many adjectives that come to my mind.

How did you celebrate this year’s Mother's Day?
I personally believe Mother’s Day should be celebrated every day! Yesterday, I took my mom out for a cup of coffee since she hates eating out. As for my two little ones who are now 7 and 8 years old, they had something up their sleeves. Both had been planning and discussing secret ideas to make me feel special on that day. I was really looking forward to this to see what my two little ones have in store for me. And they did not disappoint me at all. All in all, it was a Sunday that was full of love.

Do you think, over the years, the concept of Mother's Day has taken the commercial route?
I am not certain if it is commercial or not. But, I feel as long as mothers are being pampered, loved and celebrated, it is all for me the good and with good intention. There are so many people who live away from their mothers, such occasions give them time to take the day off and spend it with their mothers since the whole world is celebrating.

What are some of your fondest memories of celebrating Mother's Day with your mother?
My mother is also my best friend, so this day was always special. When I was younger, I would plan the entire day around my mom. From making her a card, getting her gifts to taking her out for dinner, this day was completely set aside for my mother and making her feel special. Now that Iam a mother myself and on the other side of the spectrum, I believe it’s the little things that happen every day that a mother loves, rejoices and cherishes to feel special all year round.

Over the years, do you think that your perspective of Mother's Day has changed?
My perspective is now different compared to when I was only a daughter. I realize the little things that you do throughout the year for your mother are way more important. It gives me immense joy when my children do cute little things to bring a smile to my face.

What are some of the most valuable lessons you've learned about motherhood so far?
Unconditional love and accepting your child for what they are. There is a very thin line between discipline and love, I try to walk closely to the line. Motherhood can be really challenging and demanding, from tremendous patience to having sleepless nights, to managing school - I have learnt to manage my time more effectively, to be more patient and above all I have a rule of it won’t matter to me in the next 2 years and I’ll laugh about it. I just let that go- For me bringing up happy, smiling kids who are kind and compassionate is far more important.

What are some of the most important qualities you have instilled in your children as they are growing up?
My children are still very young, they're seven and eight years old. So, I still have a long way to go to instill a lot more qualities in them. But for now, I think kindness, happiness, bringing joy to others, are important traits that I have been teaching them. I want them to be kind to all, be happy for others and do things that make them happy. As a mother I feel, with gratitude, kindness and happiness, children will make the world a better place .

How has your mother been with you? A proper hands-on mother or a friend -friend types?
My mother was and still is my best friend. I loved coming back to her after school, chatting with her and telling her everything about my day. I have a very warm and friendly relationship with my mother.  She has been a hands-on mother... always willing to lend a listening ear and sharing her life lessons to give us guidance and perspective.

Can you recall the time when your mother realized that her daughter is famous/ she is the mother of a celebrity now?
My mother has always kept us very grounded and never ever said this outright to either me or my brother Jackky. Though she feels very proud when we socially do something that helps society. That’s when we’ll receive a “I’m proud of u beta” message from her. So, when I started setting up libraries for rural kids in villages for our initiatives #ReadLatur, she beamed with pride- when my daughter goes up to her and talks about recycling and cleaning oceans, she feels very proud. It’s because of her that we have learnt that what’s most important, is what and how u make people feel and when you can, you must help people, nature, Mother Earth and make the world a happier place.

Was there something your parents did when you were a kid that you swore you’d never do yourself?Hmmm... I can’t think of anything that my parents did that I won’t repeat. They were really good parents who showered us with love, knowledge and kept us grounded with the right amount of discipline . We had a very chill and simple environment at home and I am trying to ensure the same kind of environment for my children.

Film you like to watch with your mother?
Sound of Music, Jurassic Park, Jaws. I used to always be scared so would watch these films with my mother, very unlikely choice but we would enjoy these a lot

One thing for which you were always scolded by your mother?
I was always scolded for watching a lot of television and not playing enough sports.

What is your favourite food your mother makes?
Dal Pakwan and Aloo Parathas. No one can make better aloo parathas like my mother. Even my kids go back to Nani house and only ask her to make her famous parathas.
