In photo: Ponniyin Selvan 2 cast kicks off promotional tour in style, Vikram looks ruggedly handsome

The countdown is on for the much-awaited release of Ponniyin Selvan 2, the final movie in director Mani Ratnam's epic saga. On Sunday, the star-studded cast, including Vikram, Karthi, Trisha, Jayam Ravi and Aishwarya Lekshmi, kicked off their promotional tour in style. 

Vikram tweeted a picture of himself along with his co-actors boarding a private jet. In the picture, with his long hair and thick beard, Vikram looks ruggedly handsome and stylish. It's the look he has been maintaining for his role in director Pa Ranjith's upcoming movie Thangalaan .

The promotional events for Ponniyin Selvan 2 are expected to be big and spectacular, with even the film's composer, AR Rahman, throwing his full weight behind the promotions. The cast and crew are leaving no stone unturned to make sure that the movie reaches as many people as possible.

Ponniyin Selvan 2 is based on the epic novel by iconic writer Kalki Krishnamurthy, which had been in the making for decades. The biggest titans of Tamil cinema, including MGR and Kamal Haasan, failed to turn this epic novel into a motion picture. But, Mani Ratnam's years of preparation and determination prevailed. He has also managed to mount this epic drama most cost-effectively by filming both parts together.

The movie also stars Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Sobhita Dhulipala, Prabhu, R. Sarathkumar, Vikram Prabhu, and Prakash Raj, among others. 

Ponniyin Selvan 1 was released last September to packed houses. Despite the mixed reviews, the magnum opus went on to create new records for Tamil cinema at the box office. The movie came close to matching the collections of Superstar Rajinikanth's 2.0. But, it didn't. Yet the movie's said over Rs 500 crore worldwide gross is a massive achievement.
