Interstellar Re-Release Box Office Day 1 Estimates: When Pushpa 2: The Rule, starring Allu Arjun, released on December 5, 2025, the country rejoiced, lining up outside cinema halls. However, a section of the audience was upset that Sukumar’s sequel had taken over the space that one of the most anticipated Hollywood re-releases intended to occupy. We’re talking about Interstellar, which was initially set for an IMAX re-release but was stalled when Pushpa 2 took over. Just when fans lost hope of watching the film on IMAX screens in India, the makers announced a release after a two-month delay. Now, we are tracking its box office performance.
Directed by Christopher Nolan, Interstellar was released in 2014 and stars Matthew McConaughey, Anne Hathaway, Jessica Chastain, and Timothée Chalamet. The film follows a farmer and ex-NASA pilot, Joseph Cooper, who is tasked with piloting a spacecraft alongside a team of researchers to find a new planet for humans after Earth becomes uninhabitable.
The film finally released in India on February 7, 2025, and is receiving an unparalleled response for any Hollywood re-release in the country. Not only has Interstellar outperformed fresh Bollywood releases, but it has also set a new benchmark for re-releases. Advance booking, excluding blocked seats, already hinted at a Rs 2 crore-plus opening, which is massive. However, adding on-spot and same-day bookings makes the total staggering.
Taking everything into consideration, Interstellar is set to open at a whopping Rs 5-6 crore at the Indian box office. According to Koimoi, it will create history by registering the biggest opening for a re-release in India. Currently, Thalapathy Vijay's Ghilli holds the record with Rs 4.13 crore net approx.
As per a viral tweet from an X user named Charlie, Interstellar's re-release has created massive buzz. The advance booking for the Christopher Nolan movie began a few days ago, and it has been tracking impressively at the Indian box office. The film has left behind fresh Indian releases like Loveyapa and Badass Ravi Kumar by a huge margin. The Interstellar re-release in India has already recorded pre-sales of Rs 2.01 crore, with over 2,50,000 tickets sold, grossing approximately Rs 8 crore on its opening day.
Interstellar is now poised to outperform other Hollywood re-releases like Titanic, which grossed Rs 20 crore in its Indian re-run. Interestingly, advance bookings opened in Bhubaneswar just 48 hours before the first screenings, whereas the rest of the country had access a month earlier. In Bhubaneswar, all major shows were sold out, leading to three additional slots being opened. With as many as six screenings per day from Friday to Sunday, even those are filling up fast.
