Sandeep Sharma

What a comeback by Sandeep Sharma, who had been sidelined due to injury in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. However, he recovered and was brought back into the squad by Rajasthan Royals (RR) to face Mumbai Indians (MI), and he truly dominated in Match 38 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024.

The pacer first dismissed Ishan Kishan for a duck and soon after got the better of Suryakumar Yadav (10 off 8). He later returned to the attack and claimed the wicket of the dangerman of the game, Tilak Varma, who scored 65 off 45 balls. Not content with that, he also dismissed Gerald Coetzee for a duck and Tim David for 3 of 5. In his 4 overs, Sandeep Sharma took a fifer and conceded just 18 runs.

Best figures for RR in IPL:

6/14 Sohail Tanvir vs CSK Jaipur 2008

5/16 James Faulkner vs SRH Hyderabad 2013

5/18 Sandeep Sharma vs MI Jaipur 2024 *

5/20 James Faulkner vs SRH Jaipur 2013

Regarding the clash, both teams got what they wanted at the toss, but somehow, MI failed to capitalize on winning it as they managed to score 179 runs for the loss of 9 wickets. Rohit Sharma fell in the first over while trying to be aggressive against Trent Boult, and Ishan Kishan and SKY became Sandeep Sharma's two victims.

MI were reduced to 20/3 before Mohammad Nabi, who was promoted up the order, looked in good touch. However, he was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal, who became the first IPL player to pick 200 wickets in the process.

With MI down to 52/4, the team faced a challenging situation, but two young players, Tilak Varma and Nehal Wadhera, joined forces and stabilized the innings with a counterattacking partnership. They put MI in a strong position at 151/4 after 16 overs.

However, after Wadhera, playing his first match of the season, fell for 49, RR regained momentum and in the last 4 overs, MI managed to score just 28 runs and lost 5 wickets.
