Is Vijay teaming up with Karthik Subbaraj for the first time in Thalapathy 69? And is Vels Film International the producer?

Only a few weeks ago, the makers of actor Vijay’s next film, Greatest Of All Time (GOAT), unveiled the film’s title and first look. While the film is under production, social media has been buzzing with speculations on the actor’s next film. Tentatively titled Thalapathy 69, the buzz on social media suggests that Vijay will be teaming up with filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj, who is known for making films like Pizza, Jigarthanda and Petta.

Rumours also suggest that the film will be backed by Vels Film International. However, no official information on the project has been released yet. If the rumours are indeed true, it will be the first time Karthik will be working with Vijay on a film.

What is Vijay currently working on?

Vijay, who was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s directorial Leo, is currently working with Venkat Prabhu in Greatest Of All Time (GOAT). The makers had unveiled the first look and title for the New Year’s. As per the poster, the film will have Vijay seen in two avatars, one young and another in an older getup with salt and pepper looks. The film is expected to be high on VFX and graphics and revolve around time travel. It is to be noted that this will be the first time Vijay is working with Venkat Prabhu. GOAT also stars Prashanth, Prabhudheva, Sneha, Meenakshi Chaudhary, Sneha, and Ajmal Ameer, among others. It will have music scored by Yuvan Shankar Raja, a regular Venkat Prabhu collaborator. AGS Entertainment is backing the film. On the other hand, Vijay is expected to return to LCU and team up once again with Lokesh Kanagaraj for the sequel to Leo.

Karthik Subbaraj’s body of work

Karthik Subbaraj, who is known to dabble in a variety of film genres, last made Jigarthanda DoubleX. The film is a spiritual sequel to his 2014 film, Jigarthanda. Following the template of a gangster and filmmaker, Jigarthanda DoubleX starred Raghava Lawrence and SJ Suryah in the lead roles. The film was a commercial success and rose to critical acclaim after its release. The film hinted a third part in the making. Meanwhile, Karthik has also served as a writer in Game Changer, the upcoming Telugu film starring Ram Charan under Shankar’s direction.
