Doctor Strange and the Mutiverse of Madness took the world by storm, after the makers released a new trailer for the upcoming movie. The trailer, which debuted at the Super Bowl, could now be hinting at the movie introducing the Illuminati in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU).
The Illuminati are a fictional secret society and group of superheroes from the Marvel comics. Having formed the secret group shortly after the Kree-Skrull War, the group members includes Namor, who represented the anti hero mindset, Tony Stark, who represents the common man, Reed Richards, using his scientific skill sets, Black Bolt representing the Inhumans, Professor Charles Xavier representing the mutants and Doctor Strange representing the mystics of the worlds.
The latest trailer of the Doctor Strange sequel gives a clear hint to the fans about the return of Professor X, with his voice being heard in the trailer. Considering this is not a case of misdirection, this could mean that the MCU could be trying to bring together the secret group.
Most of the members of the Illuminati have already been introduced in the MCU, and Namor and Reed Richards are expected to be on the way. The rumour mills have been churning stories about Tom Cruise playing a variant of Tony Stark in Doctor Strange 2, and the trailer does give something to keep these hopes up.
Strange can be seen being escorted to his trial by what looks to be a different version of Stark’s autonomous robots he used to aid the Avengers in crowd control and relief efforts before their corruption in Avengers: Age of Ultron.
Putting together a few clues in the trailer, and what looks to be the return of Professor X, the presence of The Illuminati in the MCU can’t be pushed aside. While the Illuminati was formed to share information to keep the world safer, this could be a different multiversal version of the secret society, or even something entirely different.
While there is still no solid evidence to suggest that a version of the Illuminati to look after all the universes will be making a debut in the MCU, the Doctor Strange sequel directed by Sam Raimi is more than intriguing. The movie is set to hit theaters on May 6th, 2022.
