Max and Mark may have a similar feel, reckons Sudeep, as the same technical team’s involved in both films. But is there any other connect?

Kiccha Sudeep and director Vijay Kartikeyaa have repeatedly said that their latest collaboration, now titled Mark, has got nothing to do with their earlier film, Max , even though there were rumours galore that it was a prequel to the 2024 hit. In a recent media briefing, Sudeep was asked yet again if these two films are set in the same cinematic universe, and the actor did not outright negate that idea.
“It could be; see, a cinematic universe is created when you get excited about a certain character. It’s an attempt, but as I already said, Mark is not Max 2. We have brought in a new character and created a new universe. You won’t see any of the characteristics of Max or the film itself in Mark; it’s quite fresh. The film’s overall feel, though, may be reminiscent of Max, because the same technical team and director is involved here too. Their aesthetics of making a film will shine through. But other than that, there is no other connection between Max and Mark,” Sudeep clarifies, adding that there are chances of a universe being created.
The buzz in cinema circles is that director Vijay Kartikeyaa had initially written the story as a prequel to Max, to explain how Arjun Mahakshay came to be known as ‘Max’. However, given that the chances of Sudeep working with producer Kalaippuli S Thanu are supposedly slim, and since the latter holds the right to the title and character Max, Vijay was forced to rebrand his story and make adequate changes to now present Mark.

Going by the title teaser, Sudeep is playing a cop yet again in Mark, which Vijay promises will have far more mass elevation moments than Max had. The film has cinematography by Shekar Chandru, music by Ajaneesh B Loknath, and has Dragon Manju, Roshni Prakash, Deepshika, Naveen Chandra and Guru Somasundaram, among others, on the cast.
