Karthi's recent outing Viruman which was directed by Muthaiya managed to impress its target audience despite the rural drama opening to discouraging reviews from critics. The actor is now awaiting the release of two of his forthcoming movies, Ponniyin Selvan and Sardar, which will be released in September and October respectively.

The former, the multi-starrer big-budget film, has Mani Ratnam at the helm while the latter, a cop drama, has been directed by PS Mithran. This is the fourth time in his career that he is having three releases in a year. He had three releases earlier in 2010, 2013 and 2019.

He is set to join Raju Murugan's untitled project soon. Though the filmmaker's tight-lipped about the movie's plot and crew, it is heard that the film has been titled Japan. An official confirmation on the title and project are expected to be made by the acclaimed director soon.

Raju, who has penned stories for a few movies, has only directed three projects in his career. Having debuted with the impressive Cuckoo in 2014, he went on to make the brilliant Joker in 2016 and half-baked Gypsy in 2020.

His last movie surprised many as it did not meet the expectations. The political thriller, which touched upon various sensitive and relevant issues, had to compromise after the Censor Board asked them to remove many objectionable sequences.

Tamil movie buffs are curious to know what topic he is going to choose for Japan, and whether he would pick a non-sensitive subject this time to avoid unnecessary hassles. Karthi is said to be working rigorously on his physique for his character in the film.
