It's official: Ponram's MGR Magan to premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on November 4

There has been widespread speculation on social media that Ponram's MGR Magan will drop on Disney+ Hotstar on Deepavali. Talking to OTTplay, the director had confirmed the same yesterday and added that the makers were left with no option, and hence decided to go the OTT way. 

The family drama was initially supposed to hit the screens in April this year, but was later postponed when theatres were shut down in Tamil Nadu due to the second wave of the pandemic. Ponram had also said that an official announcement of the film's premiere will be made in a day or two, along with the date on which the movie will drop on the OTT platform. 

On Wednesday, the social media handle of Disney+ Hotstar made the much-awaited announcement along with the release date. MGR Magan, produced by Screen Scene Media Entertainment Pvt Ltd, will premiere on November 4. Sasikumar and Mirnalini Ravi play lead roles in the project which has Sathyaraj, Samuthirakani, Saranya Ponvannan and others essaying key roles. 

Nandita Swetha will be seen in a special appearance in a song which was released by the makers earlier this year. Anthony Daasan has composed music for the film which has cinematography by Vinoth Rathinasamy. Vivek Harshan has edited the movie which has action scenes choreographed by Stunt Silva.     

Sasikumar's Udanpirappe was premiered on Amazon Prime Video a week ago. His Rajavamsam, which was supposed to hit the screens for Dussehra, was postponed in the last minute. An announcement on the updated release date of the movie is yet to be made. 

Meanwhile, Ponram is all set to complete the second schedule of his untitled movie with Vijay Sethupathi. He had revealed recently on social media that he is planning to make a sequel to his 2013 hit film Varuthapadatha Valibar Sangam soon.
