Sun Pictures, which is bankrolling Pandiraj's Etharkkum Thunindhavan, had informed yesterday that they have a surprise announcement for Suriya fans on November 19. As expected, it is an update pertaining to the movie's release date. The production house has now officially announced that the film is hitting the screens on February 4 in 2022.
This has put the speculations regarding the film's box office clash with Valimai and Maaran to rest. Earlier, there were rumours doing the rounds about the movie taking on Maaran in December. Later, it was heard that it will take on Valimai on Pongal.
With the news coming from the horse's mouth, fans of the star are now relieved though a section of them feel that Pongal would have been a better option for theatrical release. The makers also released a short video along with the announcement post on Twitter which has a few clips of Suriya shaking a leg, sending his fans into a tizzy.
Suriya's last theatrical release was KV Anand's Kaappaan (streaming on Amazon Prime Video) which released in 2019. Both his last outings, Jai Bhim and Soorarai Pottru, had a direct release on Amazon Prime Video. Interestingly, both of them went on to receive critical acclaim and positive response among the viewers.
Etharkkum Thunindhavan brings together Suriya and Pandiraj for the second time after Pasanga 2 (streaming on Amazon Prime Video). Imman has composed music for the movie which has Doctor fame Priyanka Mohan playing the female lead.
Saranya Ponvannan, Sathyaraj, MS Bhaskar, Soori, Pugazh and Ramar among others play important roles in the project. Rathnavelu has cranked the camera for the film which has editing by Antony Ruben.
