Venkat Prabhu's political thriller Maanaadu, which was released in theatres in November 25, was said to be having its OTT premiere on SonyLIV. The social media of the digital platform has now announced the same officially, though they are yet to release the date.
The post read, "The Biggest Blockbuster of the Year! Maanaadu, Starring #SilambarasanTR and #SJSurya streaming soon on SonyLIV. Loop Starts Soon. #WatchItOnRepeat #MaanaaduOnSonyLIV (sic)." It is expected that the movie will start streaming from December 24.
Yuvan Shankar Raja has composed music for the movie in which Kalyani Priyadarshan has played the female lead. The former, along with Silambarasan and SJ Suryah, who played the protagonist and antagonist in the movie respectively, earned praise from critics and audience as well.
Venkat Prabhu's screenplay and Praveen's editing were other aspects of the project which received appreciation from several quarters. Karunakaran, Premgi Amaren, Subbu Panchu, YG Mahendra, Manoj and Anjena Kirti among others played notable roles in the film.
The movie based on the concept of time-loop was initially supposed to hit the screens on Deepavali, but the makers announced its postponement a few days before the said date. Later, on November 24, the film's producer announced that the movie will not make it to theatres due to unexpected financial constraints.
However, things were sorted in a few hours' time and the makers again announced that the film will release on November 25 as planned. Though the early morning shows of Maanaadu were cancelled across Tamil Nadu, the show started screening from 8 am in the morning.
