The demise of Malayalam actor Kalabhavan Navas, who had left a mark with his comedy roles, at the age of 51 came as a shock to Malayalis and those from the industry. He was last seen in Detective Ujjwalan, starring Dhyan Sreenivasan. But the actor was also seen in a movie titled Izha, which also featured his wife Rehna. Kalabhavan Navas, known for his roles in movies such as Junior Mandrake and Mattupetti Machan, passed away in Kerala on August 1, 2025. He was married to Rehna, who was also an actress in Malayalam films but quit acting after her wedding. But she had made a return to films with Izha, which also featured Kalabhavan Navas. Directed by Siraj Reza, Izha featured Kalabhavan Navas as Shoukath while Rehna played the wife Sumayya. The married couple form the centre of the narrative as Shaukat, an expatriate, loses his job abroad and is forced to return home, a story that is familiar in Kerala. The many challenges Shaukat and his wife face as he tries to earn a living are depicted in the film. Sumayya is shown to be very supportive of her husband. Sinoj Varghese and Ajeesh John play other roles in the film, which is produced by Salim Mudhuvammal. The film was hardly known to the larger public during its release, but there is some interest in the film, sadly due Navas’ demise.
