Everyone is hooked to the internet and specifically James Gunn’s social media front to check on what is happening in the newly revamped DCU realm. The filmmaker who will kick start the new era of DCU with Creature Commandos next year , is himself directing the first live-action movie of Chapter One, Superman: Legacy. While David Corenswet is confirmed to play the titular superhero, Jacob Elordi was also reportedly the front-runner. The Kissing Booth star now confirms that he rejected the project.

For the unversed, James has been shaping Superman: Legacy for a while. The casting process for the same was a significant event in itself, and many names were speculated to be on the list. And it had to be because Gunn was technically on the hunt for a replacement for Henry Cavill, who is still synonymous with Clark Kent. Jacob now confirms that even he was approached to read the part.

In his latest GQ interview, Jacob Elordi was talking about Christian Bale’s Batman and Joker Heath Ledger’s influence on his growing-up years. He was next asked if he ever wanted to play a superhero. To which he said, "Not particularly, no. I’ve always been told to give a rounded answer or my agent will get mad at me. 'Anything can happen!'"

"And obviously anything can happen, but at this stage in my life, I don’t see myself having any interest in that. I like to make what I would watch, and I get very restless watching those movies. And then I’m supposed to finish it with: 'Never say never!'" Jacob Elordi added.

Jacob Elordi was being his honest self in the interview, and the fact that he didn’t pull himself back while talking about refusing to audition for James Gunn’s Superman: Legacy is proof. The actor confirmed, "Well, they asked me to read for Superman.” But turns out it wasn’t the part he was looking for at the moment. "That was immediately, 'No, thank you.' That’s too much. That’s too dark for me."

This also gives us a hint that James Gunn, known for his quirky and humorous projects, is shaping a dark story with Superman: Legacy. The David Corenswet and Rachel Brosnahan starrer is set for a July 11, 2025 release. Stay tuned to OTTplay for more.
