Tamil superstar Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Jailer 2 has been making much buzz ever since its announcement. In the latest update, Thalaivar has wrapped up shooting his portions and is back in his home city of Chennai. Even amid Jailer 2 shoot update, there are reports that Nelson's film may not keep its June 12 release date and could see a postponement.
Rajinikanth returns as Muthuvel Pandian in Jailer 2, the sequel to his 2023 hit movie with Nelson Dilipkumar back as the director. Videos of Rajinikanth at the airport as he returns from shooting are doing the rounds on social media.
Rajinikanth himself had earlier confirmed that the sequel will release on June 12, 2026. But now rumours suggest that the film may not keep the mid-2026 release date and could be pushed by two months at least. The Rajinikanth film could be postponed to August, as per online reports. But the makers have not made any confirmation on this or a new release update.
Rajinikanth, Ramya Krishnan, and Yogi Babu would be returning to their roles for the much-anticipated sequel. Much like the 2023 film, the Rajinikanth-starrer would see more cameo appearances with the likes of Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Kannada star Shiva Rajk umar too returning. Vijay Sethupathi had also last month confirmed that he would be making a cameo appearance in the upcoming movie. Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, SJ Suryah and Malayalam actress Anna Rajan are also part of the cast.
Nelson has also penned the script of the movie, which will have music by Anirudh Ravichander. Jailer followed the story of retired jailer Muthuvel Pandian, who is leading a happy life with his wife, son and his family. But when his son, also a cop, goes missing, he sets out to find him, revealing his past connections and power.
After Jailer, Rajinikanth’s next film was Coolie with Lokesh Kangaraj but that did not live up to the audience’s expectations.
