Not just in the southern states, Superstar Rajinikanth's Jailer has so far done impressive business in the overseas markets too.
Superstar Rajinikanth's latest movie Jailer is showing no signs of fatigue at the box office . The movie maximized its gains during its second weekend, positing impressive collection numbers at the global box office.
Not just in the southern states, Jailer has so far done impressive business in the overseas markets too. In the USA, the movie has become the highest-grossing film in Rajinikath's career . The producers marked the milestone by putting up a huge billboard of the movie's impressive success on the Las Vegas strip. Jailer has raked in about $5 million in ticket sales in the US so far. Meanwhile, the Middle East region has emerged as another big overseas market for the movie. The film has sold over $6 million worth of tickets setting a new box office benchmark for Tamil cinema in the region.
Jailer surprised everyone with the kind of reception it received in the Gulf region, which is usually dominated by Malayalam and Hindi movies. Many have claimed that the explosive cameo by Malaya superstar Mohanlal was very instrumental in taking the movie to new audiences. Mohanlal plays a dreaded gangster named Mathew in the movie. Even though he only appears for a brief time, he leaves a strong impression on everyone's memory with his character's unique flamboyance and swag.
Kannada superstar Shivarajkumar's cameo named Narasimha also added more zeal to the movie's performance at the box office. Karnataka has always been a strong market for Rajinikanth movies, but Shivarajkumar's presence in it helped the movie beat several collection records in a break-neck speed.
Jailer, however, has not managed to find a similar reception in the northern states. One of the primary reasons is Sunny Deol's Gadar 2 and Akshay Kumar's OMG 2 struck a rich vein with the movie-going audience, dominating the screens in the Hindi belt.
The global collection of Jailer is pegged at over Rs 500 crore. An official confirmation of the same is awaited.
