Jana Nayagan-CBFC row to be resolved? Vijay’s film sent to revising committee: Reports

The Jana Nayagan-CBFC row, which has been hogging national headlines and going on for over a month now, could finally see some resolution, going by the reports online. Tamil star Vijay’s final film has been sent to the revising committee by the Censor Board of Film Certification (CBFC), India Today has reported, citing a source. Here’s the latest update on the Jana Nayagan row and what it means to Vijay’s movie, the makers of which have been fighting a legal battle to ensure its release.

What is the latest update on Jana Nayagan-CBFC row

As per the article on India Today, the CBFC has sent Jana Nayagan to the revising committee. The report further stated that once the makers receive the certificate from the censor board, they would withdraw the ongoing case from the Madras High Court.

But the film’s producers KVN Productions have not made any official announcements or responded to the reports yet.

Earlier last week, there were reports about the production house agreeing to the film being sent to the revising committee, but The Hindu reported that the board had refused to give out any information.

Jana Nayagan release in sight?

However, the latest update has definitely given some respite for Thalapathy Vijay fans who have been disappointed that their star’s film missed the Pongal release and could very well miss the February window as well. But despite the reports, no official update on the movie release would be made until the film gets its censor certificate. Pooja Hegde and Mamitha Baiju play the female leads in the film, along with Bollywood star Bobby Deol.

The Vijay film was initially set to release exactly a month ago, on January 9, 2026, for Pongal. But since the film did not receive the censor certificate, the release remained postponed. The makers then approached the court for a resolution. Though the makers had even approached the Supreme Court, the apex court turned down the plea and asked the Madras High Court to hear the case.

In the latest legal update, the single bench of the Madras High Court had taken up the case afresh. Directed by H Vinoth, Jana Nayagan is the last film of Vijay before he quits cinema as he devotes his full attention to politics.
