Looks like there is no respite for the makers of Jana Nayagan, with the team taking up the matters to Supreme Court by filing a plea with the apex court, seeking an urgent intervention of the Madras High Court orders, which stayed the single bench’s order to grant U/A certificate for the film. However, on Thursday, the Supreme Court redirected the Jana Nayagan makers to HC, dismissing their plea to get CBFC clearance. The next hearing at HC is slated for January 20.
Jana Nayagan censor row: What did the Supreme Court say?
Jana Nayagan which was supposed to have hit theatres a week ago, is still embroiled in legal issue following the non-clearance of censor by CBFC authorities. The makes had appealed to the Madras High Court, with single bench order by Justice PT Asha asking CBFC to give U/A certificate. However, the order was reversed soon, after which the makers had appealed to Supreme Court. The Jana Nayagan production house KVN Production had filed a plea in front of Supreme Court asking for CBFC clearance.
However, the SC on its Thursday hearing dismissed the makers plea. As per Live Law, Justice Dipankar Datta and Justice Augustine George Masih did not entertain the production's plea and asked them to go to HC's Division Bench. The next hearing is slated on January 20 at Madras HC.
Jutice Datta noted that the CBFC chairperson's order dated on January 6 which was referring the issue to the Revising Committee was not challenged, and added that the Supreme Court had no reasons to interfere in the matter, leaving it up to the High Court to take the decision. The matter will be coming up for hearing at Madras High Court on January 20.

It looks like the makers of Jana Nayagan will have to wait until the beginning of next week to hear further update on the issue, as the film missing Pongal festive window. Touted as Vijay’s last film, Jana Nayagan’s battle with CBFC over the censor certificate has left scores of fans disappointed.
