In what may come a pleasant news for Vijay fans, the Madras High Court has asked the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to grant U/A censor certificate to Jana Nayagan, the upcoming Tamil film which was slated for release on January 9, Friday.
Jana Nayagan censor issue: What did Madras HC say?
Jana Nayagan, the most anticipated Pongal release this month, was postponed from its release date January 9, after the makers failed to secure censor certificate from CBFC on time. The makers had approached Madras High Court, which on Friday directed CBFC to issue U/A certificate for the film.
As per Live Law, Justice PT Asha was quoted as saying, "After examining materials, it is Crystal clear that the complainant's grievance appears to be an after thought," and that it is a 'dangerous trend' to entertain such complaints. The court also noted that CBFC's chairman letter was uploaded with a jurisdiction and after the modifications are carried out as per the committee, the film's censor certificate will be issued. However, on the other hand, Additional Solicitor General L Sundaresan, who represents CBFC, appealed to Chief Justice Mandra Mohan Shrivastava for an urgent hearing of writ petition against PT Asha’s order. A hearing is expected to happen later today or on Monday.
Jana Nayagan release date: When will Vijay film hit big screens?
Now that the Court has directed to grant U/A certificate, the makers can announce the release date. But that can happen only after it gets the certificate on hand. On the other side, the ASG has also urged against the court’s order, it is yet uncertain when Jana Nayagan will release.
Touted as Vijay’s farewell film before he begins full-time politics, Jana Nayagan is expected to be a remake of Telugu film Bhagavanth Kesari. H Vinoth has directed the film which also stars Pooja Hegde, Mamitha Baiju, Bobby Deol, Priyamani and others.
