Jana Nayagan, due for release in two days, now stands postponed, thanks to Central Board of Film Certification which had delayed issuing the censor certificate, followed by case proceedings which failed to give a verdict. Now that, a big-ticket film like Jana Nayagan will not be hitting big screens on January 9 as expected, members of Tamil cinema have come in solidarity and showed support for Jana Nayagan.
With much disappointment, the makers of Jana Nayagan had put out a postponement announcement of their film, leaving fans who waited for the release of film in disappointment. The last-minute delays by CBFC followed up High Court reserving their orders, have made it impossible for the Vijay-starrer to hit big screens as expected on January 9. One of the reasons speculated is the political implications given Vijay is set to debut in elections this year and had made strong comments, showing his opposition to the ruling parties both Union and State.
Amid this, certain members of the Tamil cinema film fraternity have come in support of Jana Nayagan. Actor Ravi Mohan, whose Parasakthi is also in legal soup over censor issues, expressed that he is heartbroken and wrote, “Anna.. as a brother I’m standing with you as one among the millions of brothers beside you. You don’t need a date.. you are the opening. Whenever that date is.. Pongal only starts then.”
Meanwhile, filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj, addressed how a small film like Salliyargal did not get theatres, censor delays caused postponement for Jana Nayagan, and Parasakthi too yet to be issued censor certificate. "Please let's all together in Film fraternity keep aside the Fan wars, Political reasoning , Personal agendas, Hate Campaigns & join together to do something optimistic to Save the ART ... Save Cinema," Karthik Subbaraj tweeted after talking about how big budget films find it hard to follow 'strict timeline rules' for Censor.
