Jana Nayagan release date: Vijay’s farewell film with H Vinoth set for Pongal 2026 release

Jana Nayagan, the upcoming Tamil film starring actor Vijay in the lead role, is all set to release in theatres for Pongal 2026. The makers on Monday announced the release date of the film. While it was earlier announced that Jana Nayagan will have an October 2025 release, the latest announcement has revealed the film’s postponement. The much-awaited film will release on January 9, 2026 worldwide.

Jana Nayagan release date: Vijay’s farewell film with H Vinoth set for Pongal 2026 release

Actor Vijay, who enjoys a massive fanbase among the audience and has entertained us for years, will be starring in his farewell film titled Jana Nayagan. The film will mark Vijay’s exit from the film industry, before he concentrates on full-time politics in Tamil Nadu.

Touted to be a political action thriller, the film is written and directed by H. Vinoth and produced by KVN Productions. This film holds particular significance as it marks the final cinematic appearance of Thalapathy Vijay before his anticipated foray into politics. ​Alongside Vijay, the film stars Pooja Hegde, Bobby Deol, Gautham Vasudev Menon, Prakash Raj, Priyamani, Mamitha Baiju, Monisha Blessy, and in pivotal roles. ​

Initially slated for release in October 2025, the makers have now announced a grand Pongal release on January 9, 2026. With music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, Jana Nayagan is generating significant anticipation among fans, eager to witness Vijay's onscreen his political journey begins.​ Sathyan Sooryan ISC cranking the camera. Anl Arasu is the action coordinator. The film also marks Vinoth’s first collaboration with Vijay.

H Vinoth films to watch on OTT

H Vinoth made his directorial debut with the 2014 heist drama Sathuranga Vettai and followed up with Theera Adhigaaram Ondru, both of which are available on Jio Hotstar. The director then made a hattrick collaboration with Ajith Kumar and directed the star in Nerkonda Paarvai, Valimai and Thunivu. While the first one is the Tamil remake of Hindi film Pink, Valimai is a crime thriller. Both are available for streaming on ZEE5, OTTplay Premium.
