It won't be wrong to say Jawan, starring Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan in the lead role, is the most-awaited movie in director Atlee's career. The movie marks his directorial debut in the Hindi film industry and it also features some of the biggest names from the South Indian film industry.

According to some reports, Atlee has taken inspiration from legendary actor-director Kamal Haasan's Oru Kaidhiyin Diary, which means 'a prisoner's dairy.' The 1985 movie was written and directed by Bharathiraja. The drama narrated the actions of a just-released prisoner, who sets out to take his revenge against those who raped and killed his wife and sent him to jail. Kamal had played the double role of father and son in the movie. While the father is on a killing spree, his son, a police officer, runs against the clock to stop him.

According to unconfirmed reports, Shah Rukh Khan is playing a double role, father and son, in the movie.

Earlier, the synopsis of the movie surfaced online revealing the plot of the movie. And it suggested that it was an action movie packed with emotional elements as a man seeks to right the wrongs of society, driven by a personal vendetta and a promise made long ago.

If the reports are true, then it won't be the first time that Atlee would be leaning in on classic Tamil movies for making modern blockbusters. His past movies were also touted to be some variations of beloved old Tamil movies. For example, his directorial debut Raja Rani was claimed to be a re-imagination of director Mani Ratnma's Mouna Ragam. Many pointed out Their was inspired by Chatriyan, and Mersal had a reminiscence of Kamal's blockbuster Aboorva Sagotharargal.

However, Atlee has never been deterred by these comparisons and has taken such criticism in his stride.

Besides Shah Rukh Khan, Jawan also stars Vijay Sethupathi, Nayanthara, Sanya Malhotra, and Priyamani in the lead roles.

Jawan is set to hit cinemas on June 2.
