Sony LIV has been on a roll when it comes to releasing quality Malayalam content on OTT. Almost all of its past releases including Tovino Thomas’ Kaanekkaane, Shane Nigam and Revathy’s Bhoothakaalam, Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Churuli and Joju George’s Madhuram had won honours at this year’s Kerala State Film Awards. Up next the OTT platform is gearing up for the release of Jayasurya’s Eesho.

The movie, which is helmed by Nadirshah, marks the actor’s second direct-to-OTT release after Ranjith Sankar’s Sunny that hit Amazon Prime Video last year. Eesho also marks the second collaboration between the director and State Award-winning actor after their comedy caper Amar Akbar Antony.

Contrary to Nadirshah’s previous films, all of which have been fun entertainers, Eesho is a thriller. Scripted by Suneesh Varanad, the movie also has Jaffer Idukki and Namitha Pramod in pivotal characters. Shot extensively in the night after the first lockdown, the film’s main locations were Kochi and Dubai.

Eesho is also Nadirshah’s second straight OTT release after Dileep and Urvashi’s Kesu Ee Veedinte Nadhan, which dropped on Disney+ Hotstar last year. In an earlier interview with us, Jayasurya said that the film will stand out in Nadirshah’s filmography as it’s a type of movie that he hasn’t attempted yet.

Sony LIV’s latest release was Innale Vare, starring Asif Ali, Antony Varghese, Nimisha Sajayan and Reba Monica John. Directed by Jis Joy, the film revolved around an actor who is held hostage by two tech-savvy individuals in return for money. The movie’s story is by Bobby and Sanjay, whose previous two movies – Kaanekkaane and Salute – also has direct-to-OTT release on the platform.

Meanwhile, Jayasurya is now gearing up to shoot for his biggest movie yet – Kathanar, which is helmed by #Home director Rojin Thomas. The film, which will be shot in 3D, is made on a budget exceeding Rs 75 crore and is among the first Malayalam movies to use virtual production.
