JC The University’s Surya Prakhyath on his learning from the gap between his debut and his second film

JC The University is the latest production venture by Daali Dhananjaya and stars Surya Prakhyath in the lead. Prakhyath was the protagonist of the 2018 film Naduve Anataravirali and is only on his second film with JC The University. The obvious question is what took the actor over 7 years to get to that sophomore project? Turns out, Prakhyath had worked on 2-3 films, which, for various reasons are yet to see the light of day. It then struck him that to ensure that a film makes it all the way to the screen, he would have to collaborate with a known brand.

What was Prakhyath's big learning from not having a release in 7 years?

“I had completed 2 films and a third was in production when the producer had to pull out from the project and it had to be shelved. My biggest learning from this was that just as important the story and script of a film are, you also need to be associated with a banner that will see the project through from start-to-finish,” said the actor.

Prakhyath and director Chetan Jayaram worked on the script of JC The University together and then approached Daali Pictures. To their luck, Dhananjaya okayed it and that’s how the journey began, said the actor in a special promotional interview for the film, which hits theatres on February 6, 2026. The film, meanwhile revolves around Prakhyath’s character, Madhusudan, over a span of a decade, where he goes from being a collegian to being a jail inmate and learning the ropes of the underworld.

Whether or not it is possible for someone to be reformed after a lengthy prison term, or if a return to crime is all that is left for the person is something that the film explores. The film also stars Rangayana Raghu, Bhavana Reddy, Thriller Manju, Vijay Simha, among others.

JC The University is Dhananjaya’s latest production venture, after Badava Rascal , Head Bush, Tagaru Palya and Vidyapati. The actor has not revealed if he is also a part of the film. Although Dhananjaya has had cameos in Vidyapati and, more recently, in Parasakthi, it’s been nearly 2 years since he’s had a solo release.
