November has begun well for Telugu cinema with both Keedaa Cola and Maa Oori Polimera 2 performing impressively across different circuits globally. Both the films, made on a modest budgets, are expected to garner good profits. Surprisingly, the second weekend, ahead of the Diwali festive season, an impressive number of dubbed films are set to greet audiences. What to expect from them? We take a look.
Jigarthanda Double X - November 10
The film is the second instalment to Karthik Subbaraj’s super-hit Jigarthanda, featuring SJ Suryah and Raghava Lawrence in crucial roles. While Jigarthanda’s remake Gaddalakonda Ganesh clicked with Telugu crowds, those who’re familiar with the Tamil version are likely to enjoy it more. The raw, quirky trailer helped its prospects. Good word-of-mouth will be necessary for it to succeed in Telugu.
Japan - November 10
Telugu audiences have always received Karthi’s dubbed films well. Japan, given it’s distributed by Annapurna Studios, is expected to get a grand release and an impressive opening too. The film’s female lead, Anu Emmanuel, is equally familiar with crowds here. The whacky characterisation, entertaining trailer and the aggressive promotional campaign have ensured it an edge ahead of the rest.
Deepavali - November 11
Seasoned Telugu producer Sravanthi Ravikishore, who debuted in Tamil cinema with Kida, is now releasing the film Telugu as Deepavali. The RA Venkat directorial is a rural drama that has won big at the festival circuit and received critical acclaim in the Tamil version. Starring Poo Ramu, Kali Venkat, Deepavali is catered to a niche audience that seeks quality storytelling over familiar faces.
Tiger 3 - November 12
Starting with Brahmastra and other recent hits like Pathaan and Jawan, the Telugu dubbed versions of popular Hindi films are finally making their presence at the box office in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. With the star power of Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif, Emraan Hashmi and the special appearances of Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Tiger 3 is expected to make the right noises in its Telugu version too.
