Baby star Viraj Ashwin and Ravanasura fame Pujita Ponnada are joining hands for a fun romance drama, directed by debutant Anu Prasad. Sonu Thakur, Siri Hanumanth, Madhunandan, Sai Kumar, Rohini and Brahmaji essay other crucial roles in the film produced by Nireesh Thiruveedula under Shikhara and Akshara Arts. The film hits screens across Telugu states on December 15.
Anu Prasad’s father earlier ran a catering business and it took the newcomer nearly 7-8 years to make a mark as a filmmaker. He approached Viraj after watching the award-winning short Manasanahama. Impressed by the debutant’s script, Viraj signed it with the belief that good writers can make good films too. He plays Santosh, a corporate employee who's the son of a weaver. “Santosh is a guy that every girl wants to date, a son every parent wants,” the director says.
Pujita Ponnada was the first actor to come on board for the film. When there was gloom in the air post-COVID-19 lockdown, the actress was pleasantly surprised to listen to a fun script like Jorugaa Husharugaa, which she equates to an Ugadi pachadi. Having been a corporate employee herself in the past, the role gave her ample scope to incorporate real-life influences. The actress says, “It has something for everyone with the right dose of emotions, humour and romance.”
Having seen the life of weavers across his friend’s households and the generational disconnect in their families, Anu wrote Sai Kumar’s character. “Anu truly has worldly wisdom, the ability to look at the larger picture and came up with great dialogues,” the veteran mentions, while adding it’ll be a memorable film after hits like SR Kalyana Mandapam, Ammayi Kosam, Antahpuram.
Mahi Reddy’s cinematography and Praneeth’s music are assets to the film, the team assures. The director calls the producer Nireesh Thiruveedula an elder brother who trusted him through thick and thin. Siri Hanumanth, who acted in many short films by Anu Prasad earlier, also plays a crucial role. While the filmmaker was worried about Madhunandan’s cooperation on sets, he went on to develop a good rapport with him later.
