As Raj Mehta's Jug Jugg Jeeyo has opened to positive response, the filmmaker is now looking forward to his next project. Selfiee, starring Akshay Kumar and Emraan Hashmi in the lead, went on floors earlier this year and the team had announced a couple of months ago that they have completed a lion's share of its shooting.
The project, which stars Diana Penty and Nushrratt Bharuccha, too, in key roles, is the official remake of Malayalam movie Driving Licence (streaming on Amazon Prime Video). The shooting of the film, bankrolled by Karan Johar's Dharma Productions, has been happening in Lucknow.
In a chat with Pinkvilla, Raj Mehta revealed that the team is almost done with the project except for a few patch works. They are currently busy with the post-production works for the movie. An announcement on the film's release date is expected anytime soon.
Raj also said that Selfiee won't be a scene-by-scene remake, and that they have ensured to present the movie in a different way. "Our plan was to come up with an adaptation, and not a usual remake. I had watched the Malayalam version before beginning Selfie, and the latter has been made to cater to the taste of Hindi audience," he said.
Raj, who had worked with Akshay earlier in Good Newwz (streaming on Amazon Prime Video), added that it was the star who suggested him to take up the remake of Driving License as he felt the remake version has good potential to attract Bollywood audience.
According to Raj, there has been pressure ever since the movie went on floors as the original version had received good response among the audience and critics. He also went on to say that Akshay and Emraan are two actors who are easy to work with.
