Kaala released in theatres on June 7, 2018, thus clocking six years since its release. The film is directed by Pa Ranjith, in his second consecutive collaboration with Rajinikanth after Kabali. If you would like to revisit the film, it is available for streaming on Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar.
Kaala is produced by actor Dhanush under his banner Wunderbar Films and features Rajinikanth in the lead titular role. Besides him, the cast comprises of actors Nana Patekar, Eswari Rao, Huma Qureshi, Samuthirakani, Pankaj Tripathi, Anjali Patil, Manikandan, Dileepan, Nitish Veera, Sampath Raj and Ravi Kale among others. Kaala marks Rajinikanth's 164th film.

The film revolves around a leader in Dharavi, a suburb in Mumbai, who fights against a corrupt minister who usurps the people's land. The film opened to positive criticism and performed decently well at the box office upon its release.
Kaala has music by Santhosh Narayanan, a regular collaborator of Pa Ranjith. With Sreekar Prasad editing the film, cinematographer Murali G shot Kaala. Some hailed that Kaala became one of Rajinikanth’s film which took consideration of modern day’s sensibilities and told a powerful tale of political understanding.
Meanwhile, Rajinikanth, who was last seen in filmmaker Nelson Dilipkumar’s Jailer, is currently expecting the release of Vettaiyan in October. The film is directed by Jai Bhim-fame TJ Gnanavel and produced by Lyca Productions. The actor is also working with Lokesh Kanagaraj for a film titled Coolie. The film is backed by Sun Pictures with Anirudh Ravichander scoring the music.
